Tell us about yourself.:
I am a K-8 teacher with a passion for special education. One of my greatest joys is helping every child recognize their own abilities.
Though currently working on my second master’s degree, with a focus on middle school social studies, my primary focus continues to be my three daughters: Abigail, Anna, and Charlotte.
Abigail is 2 and my twins, Anna and Charlotte, are 1. As a mom of 3 under 3 life can definitely get chaotic. To all the parents out there, you're superheroes!
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?:
I grew up in Colorado just outside of Denver. I love Colorado and although it's getting a bit crowded I'm not sure I'd want to live anywhere else. The mountains have certainly influenced my writing and the type of characters I write about. In the mountains you can find peace, adventure, and magnificent beauty. I am also blessed to live around the majority of my family, another theme that often shows up in my writing.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I honestly don't have any writing habits. My writing tends to be sporadic and I'll whip out an entire children's book in one sitting. If it comes to me then I write it. In fact, I wrote one children's book on a break from work while I was watching my oldest daughter play with some toys.
What authors have influenced you?

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Have fun and don't stress too much. Writing and publishing is a learning process. Don't be afraid to ask questions and grow. You'll make mistakes but you'll also have a lot of wins. Celebrate those wins!
What is the best advice you have ever been given?
Just go for it! I over think everything and although I encourage others to pursue their dreams I'm not as good at pursuing my own. When my husband told me to just go for it and see what would happen he gave me the push I needed.
What are you reading now?
The Chosen by Ted Dekker and Becoming by Michelle Obama
What’s your biggest weakness?
Not being flexible. I love plans and I love following plans. I struggle if my plans get changed or if there isn't one at all. It's great to have plans but if they keep you from enjoying life then plans can get in the way.
What is your favorite book of all time?
The Heretic Queen by Michelle Moran. I love historical fiction!
When you’re not writing, how do you like to spend your time?
I love doing activities with my kids. The zoo, park, or any little outing with my kids are some of my favorite things to do. I love building memories and sharing with them some of the things I grew up with.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I honestly do not remember the first story I ever read. I do remember our "story time" though. My mom would sit on the couch and we would all cuddle up next to her as she read. It is still one of my favorite memories and definitely sparked a love for reading.
What has inspired you and your writing style?
I think my faith is one of the greatest inspirations for my writing. That and my personality as an introvert. As an introvert, my writing is where I feel like I can truly share my feelings and work through things in my own life. To me, writing something out is so much easier than talking it out. In my next children's book, I worked out a lot of grief. However, you would never know that when you read the book because the story is what I would have liked to have happened.
What are you working on now?
Right now I am working on getting ready for the launch of my next book, Abigail's Auntie Kristi, which is coming out August 10th.
What is your favorite method for promoting your work?
So far my favorite method is connecting with readers and fellow authors on Instagram. I enjoy Instagram because people are more willing to engage with other authors that they do not know personally. I love seeing what others are reading and working on and receiving the same support in return.
What’s next for you as a writer?
After I publish this next book I plan to continue writing books for the Abigail Collection. I have a couple of ideas in mind that I'm especially excited for. One involves collaborating with my husband and I've also got to get my twin daughters in the collection!
How well do you work under pressure?
I tend to do well under pressure but I'm not a fan of it!
How do you decide what tone to use with a particular piece of writing?
I think it depends on the type of message I'm trying to get across. If I want my book to teach a lesson, then I tend to write with a tone that helps the reader understand there's a purpose to the writing. If I just want a sweet story, then I'll probably write with a tone that is more upbeat.
If you could share one thing with your fans, what would that be?
Thank you!! You have no idea how appreciative I am. I love getting pictures, reviews, and sweet comments about my work. I am also happy to receive comments that let me know what I can do better in the next book.
