I have a neuromuscular disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) which creates challenges in my daily life and causes me to have to use a wheelchair. But I refuse to let SMA stop me from doing what I love or define me. I’m not the girl with SMA who writes. I’m the writer who just so happens to have SMA.
Death by Midnight is my first book, which has been a blast to write. It is the first book in The Secret Life of Anna Goode series and I'm already planning book two.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have to start writing first thing in the morning. If I don't, I won't be able to write the rest of the day.
What authors have influenced you?
Rick Riordan and Anthony Horowitz. I love Riordan's sense of humor and how he makes his characters so three-dimensional, and Horowitz can fill his story with such suspense it's palpable.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep reading and writing. It sounds cliché, but by reading more you can see what techniques other writers use, and you'll get better at writing the more you do it. Practice makes perfect.
