Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?:
I found a lot of inspiration from my own life actually. I left home at 17 and got involved in an emotionally abusive and controlling relationship. By the time I left over 15 years later, I had four young children. I was lucky my aging mother defied my father and allowed me to go back home until I could find a place to live.
I reconnected with a friend of mine who had also separated from an abusive woman, and we went for coffee, and he helped me and my kids get settled in a place of our own.

He and I celebrated our twelfth wedding anniversary this year.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I tend to write a lot of notes for several books first before I go back over them and try to get them to take shape.
I also get most ideas for my books from verbal interactions, either in person or from movies, and even from song lyrics.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up and write from the heart and not to please people.

What is the best advice you have ever been given?
A bad first draft is better than a blank page.

What are you reading now?
I’m actually in between books at the moment, as I’m focusing on writing.

What’s your biggest weakness?
Procrastination – I tend to get caught up in making story ideas and not developing them.

What is your favorite book of all time?
I keep changing this answer whenever I’m asked cause it’s so hard to pick just one.
I guess at the moment it would be Charlotte’s Web.

When you’re not writing, how do you like to spend your time?
I like watching old UK crime shows with my husband, sipping wine and spending time with my 5 kids.

Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I think it was Wind in the Willows, and I still love it to this day, including the TV show. As a child, it made me hope to find the true friendships/relationships depicted in the story.

What has inspired you and your writing style?
I found a lot of inspiration from my own life actually. I left home at 17 and got involved in an emotionally abusive and controlling relationship. So I tend to write relatable scenarios and conflicts but just with a happy ending.

What are you working on now?
A few things are in the works. Mostly, I’m trying to get back into writing after the death of my mother late last year.

What is your favorite method for promoting your work?
Online and book trailers – I’m very bad at talking about myself, and though I’ve done several face-to-face interviews and book launches, I’m very awkward in them

What’s next for you as a writer?
To keep my promise to my dying mother and not give up…so I’m going through old manuscripts and trying to get them ready for publication before I tackle something new.

How well do you work under pressure?
Usually pretty good – I’m the mother of 5 children, so I’m quite used to it.

How do you decide what tone to use with a particular piece of writing?
I usually let the characters lead the way and tell me how things should be said.

If you could share one thing with your fans, what would that be?
Probably to remember that writers are human beings with human feelings, and when we write a book, more often than not, it’s a personal piece of us. No one will ever like everything an author writes, but try to be gentle with any constructive comments you might have.
