Tell us about yourself.:
I've only written one book. My lifelong focus as an artist has been primarily on visual creativity. I've worked professionally as a fine artist and illustrator.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?:
I moved around while I was growing up, spending time in Arkansas, Oregon and California. Seeing the ocean for the first time on the Oregon coast started my love of the ocean. This theme is throughout my writing.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write for enjoyment. It helps me organize and give meaning to thoughts and memories. I'm not driven or have any particular kind of routine.
What authors have influenced you?

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Although my book years to complete and at times I put it away for long periods of time, it was rewarding to see it finished and published.
What is the best advice you have ever been given?
Write who you are and what you know through experience. Try to be as true to yourself as you possibly can. I don't feel it's spiritually beneficial to imitate the popular or try to predict what others will like.
What are you reading now?
Currently I'm not reading any particular book. I do watch a lot of films paying close attention to scripting.
What’s your biggest weakness?
Business and marketing
What is your favorite book of all time?
Daniel Quinn's books: Ishmael, Story of B and My Ishmael. These novels are about story and how they shape our views of the world.
When you’re not writing, how do you like to spend your time?
Appreciating nature, whether it be in the ocean, on a hike or just observing wildlife in their environment, although I continue with hobbies that foster creativity.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The Enormous Egg by Oliver Butterworth. I remember it being fun to read and I was about the same age as the boy in the story.
What has inspired you and your writing style?
"Malama Island" came about from a friend and I playing around with ideas about escaping to a magical hidden island.
What are you working on now?
Currently I have no plans for another book although an idea for a sequel has crossed my mind.
What is your favorite method for promoting your work?
I'm still trying to figure that out.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I would like to write at more length about what inspired the book, "Malama Island" I wrote. I know people often read for superficial enjoyment but sometimes more is hidden between the lines that they may not have noticed.
How well do you work under pressure?
Not at all.
How do you decide what tone to use with a particular piece of writing?
I prefer a simple, straight forward writing style.
If you could share one thing with your fans, what would that be?
Never take a story at face value. Look for the deeper meaning.
