Gary’s Lying Injustice Thrillers, his first series, is also his most decorated. Lying in Judgment, features Peter Robertson, a man serving on the jury of a murder trial–the murder that he committed. Gary’s second novel, The Mountain Man’s Dog, came out in June 2016, kicking off the Mountain Man Mysteries series. Forester Lehigh Carter fears only two things: dogs and women. But when he rescues an injured dog on the highway and brings it into his ex-fiancee’s vet clinic, his fears collide, leading to an unwelcome deep dive into the worlds of romance, politics, pet ownership. The sequel, The Mountain Man’s Bride, was released Feb. 8, 2017. The third book in the series, The Mountain Man’s Badge, was released in June, 2018.

When I’m not writing, I am a water aerobics enthusiast, amateur jewelry maker, struggling bridge player, and devoted grandmother.I grew up in Kentucky, went to college at the University of Georgia where I had way too much fun, and graduated from the University of Kentucky. After college, I worked for the Associated Press then became a reporter for “The Hartford Courant” in Connecticut. My two daughters were born there. My newspaperman husband got a job in Memphis and we moved there. I became a freelance speechwriter, publicist, and marketing person for major local companies, but my favorite gigs were with the Memphis City Schools and the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. I retired, and began doing what I’d wanted to do since sixth grade: write fiction.
I wrote short stories that appeared in such anthologies as “Now There Was a Story”, “Low Down Dirty Vote II and III”, “Mayhem in Memphis,” and “Mystery, Crime, and Mayhem”. Since I liked short stories, I tried my hand at a longer form and wrote a novella of love and murder, “The Yellow Fever Revenge.” What I really wanted to write a novel, and so was born the civil rights era suspense/thriller series, Sterling Brothers Ltd. So far the series includes “Justice Tomorrow,” “The Price of a Future,” and coming soon, “Wigs, Mustaches, and Other Disguises”.

This has been a quote and sentiment I’ve lived by for nearly three decades now. And to complement it, my lifelong core belief is simple: “How is one to know what they are good at, what they like or don’t like, or what they can do, if they never try and do it?” So I go out and do it.
Having these two main thoughts taking up space in my head has led me on many interesting paths all across North America from central Mexico to Alaska, Maine to Washington, and a few places in Canada… and even into the oceans. Now I’m writing about my real-life experiences while weaving in some fiction so I don’t get sued.
Heavily influenced and intrigued by reading Louis L’Amour growing up, I’ve held dozens of jobs in numerous career fields—on purpose. I’ve held top positions and won numerous awards in a variety of fields over the years as I take pride in my work and have integrity. I’ve worked for years in management, sales, marketing, restaurants, retail, tourism, animal rescue and rehab.
I’m an author, artist, photographer, proofreader, editor, and traveler. I’ve also worked as a dispatcher in law enforcement, and as a bona fide cowgirl in Arizona. I began riding horses at age 4 and have decades working with horses in about every capacity. I’m an absolute animal lover, both wild and domestic.
In the support of others, I’ve been a volunteer and supporter for numerous charities for decades. While my main focus is on protecting all animals and the environment, I’ve been a longtime supporter with Operation Gratitude. (Give them a look… they’re fully legit! I’ve got over 10 years with them!) Giving back is important no matter who it is.
