Tell us about yourself.:
I'm one of those people who tend to go in several directions at once! There has been paths in software engineering, penciling and inking comic art, music, and so on. Through it all, I always returned to writing. Creating stories. Eventually, I got it through my head that, well, maybe I should be doing more of that!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I'm not sure how unusual it is, but when I write, or really during editing, I read each chapter out loud to myself. Sometimes with accents and all, acting the scene. It helps me get a clear view of what the
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Success at writing isn't something external.
What is the best advice you have ever been given?
You have to be a fan of your own work. Enjoy the story you are writing, it shines through.
What are you reading now?
Knight's Shadow, book 2 of the Greatcoats
What’s your biggest weakness?
I'd say my habit of taking on too much at once onto my shoulders.
What is your favorite book of all time?
I've several favorites, but one of my most favorite is "Paladin's Grace" by T. Kingfisher
When you’re not writing, how do you like to spend your time?
Oh, I read, play or run roleplaying games, garden and cook!
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Not really the first story but the first book series. The first was the Hardy Boys. I adored those and it launched me into others, eventually writing my own first fanfics!
What has inspired you and your writing style?
Louis L'amour said once "I think of myself… as a troubadour, a village storyteller, the guy in the shadows of the campfire."
That stuck with me and so I try to follow that and be the other guy around the campfire telling my stories, too.
What are you working on now?
I'm working on the sequel to Dark Device of the Great Chasm, and Death Whispers of the Etherwave, which is the first book in a new series.
What is your favorite method for promoting your work?
Not sure I have a favorite way. Talk to people? Be present in the community and just help others and other writers? Kindness pays you back tenfold.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Well, that would be continue with my stories, and maybe dip a toe into the audiobook world!
How well do you work under pressure?
Depends on the pressure. Some pressure focuses me and I do fantastic work. A little past that? Oh, I come unglued. It's a delicate balance.
How do you decide what tone to use with a particular piece of writing?
Genre mostly. I try to make sure all my characters feel 'lived in'. But they also have some edge of sass to them. Some more than others!
If you could share one thing with your fans, what would that be?
That no matter what, I'm writing for you, for me, for us. I'm as big a fan as you are of these stories and characters.
