Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a vocal coach from Tanzania and this is my first book. Interestingly, this particular book began life as a newspaper column. It pretty much documents what goes on in my voice studio, in articles that are easy-to-read and understand.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My students inspired me to write my latest book, 101 Letters from a Vocal Coach: A Collection of Helpful Tips and Articles for Singers. They deserve all the credit.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. I write when I feel like writing and it doesn't matter what time of day it is. If an idea hits me, I will at least jot it down in my journal and get back to it later to develop an article.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I don't have a particular author that springs to mind and neither do I have a particular book or bunch of books for that matter. I read all kinds of material.
What are you working on now?
I'm not working on another book just yet. But I do have an unfinished novel I intend to revisit. But I'm not in a great big hurry.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Blogging works best for me. Far better than most methods. And WhatsApp is probably the most effective way to share my articles (for me). I have a HUGE WhatsApp Broadcast List.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
I suppose the biggest challenge for new authors will be with getting started and sticking to the plan. In my case my newspaper column kept me writing. I had to keep up with the weekly submission deadlines, and that is how I was able to complete the book. So if you're finding it difficult to stay on track, find a way to motivate yourself to keep going.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
"Your talent is God's gift to you. What you do with it is your gift back to God." – Leo Buscaglia
What are you reading now?
At the moment I'm reading Vendetta: Lucky's Revenge by Jackie Collins.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Well, to begin with, I have a book to promote. And so I plan to write 1,000 short articles (150-200 words) to keep the book in circulation. A tall order, but I'm sure I can handle it.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Off the top of my head, perhaps Think And Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.
