Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born and raised in Macon, GA and now reside in New York City. I have a love for telling stories, as I feel that there is an art to them. I like to write under the moniker of "The Blakk Dahlia" because I'm able to tell my own stories without others giving their own personal accounts. As many know the real "Black Dahlia" never got the opportunity to tell her own story. I can express the life, views, and thoughts of me with no twist and turns, no one sided details. I can give it all, the good, the bad, and the ugly.
I've written the first installment of my book series called the Heartbreak Diaries which will consist of 8 or more books. My first release is "Rushing to Distraction" which is available NOW!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
"Rushing to Distraction" was inspired by a true experience I went through when dealing with the dating phase. The story consists of a woman who is so focused on career, family and friends but forgets that she actually wants love. When she finds the first potential mate, everything goes out of the window and she focuses more on making a relationship happen instead of just letting it flow.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I love to write when the world is sleep. I usually start around 1am and don't stop until the sun rises. This helps me to think better and taps into those creative juices suppressed that are sometimes by the daily hustle.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love Eric Jerome Dickey's work. He's able to captivate readers with his words painting realistic pictures in every story.
What are you working on now?
Still working on putting the final touches on the second entry for the Heartbreak Diaries "Wrong Vengeance" I'm looking to release it in late Fall of this year.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I'm very into social media these days. We all go to Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook for the latest recommendations in good reads and products. I also like to target book bloggers and book clubs. It's important to stay on their radar for good "word of mouth" marketing and references.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Paint the picture. Don't skimp readers out on a good story because it lacks detail. Use your journal, computer screen etc. as a blank canvas to tell a meaningful story that will last in their minds even after the final page is closed.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just go for it. For years I've been afraid to release my work to the world because of what others may think. Waiting for that "perfect time". Well, there isn't a perfect time. Your time is NOW!
What are you reading now?
"Stillness Speaks" by Eckhart Tolle. My mind stays racing with everything I'm working on so I need guidance on just being still.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Continuing to promote Rushing to Distraction and working to release the next book "Wrong Vengeance".
What is your favorite book of all time?
Do You Take This Woman? by RM Johnson
