“About Planar Wars: Apertures (Book 1):
A disastrous top-secret military experiment. An amateurish foray into the boundaries of cutting-edge physics and dimensional rifts. Now, worlds and dimensions are merging and fantasy bites our reality.
You suddenly wake up to a world merging with other realities. Dimensions where your sense of normalcy and way of life do not mean anything. Finding out that most modern inventions do not work anymore. Where your very flesh and bones are prized by monstrous predators and powerful beings the like you’ve never seen nor heard before. Worlds only whispered of in rare ancient texts and surreal pictographs.
And more realities are being forcibly brought into this plane of existence. What would you do? How will you survive?
Hello. I am Eric Weber.
I am twenty-six at the time of writing this.
I am with my girlfriend, Jen Stuart, and it’s now December 2019; I have no idea about the date. Running for your life makes you forget those things. Not that digital watches and cell phones are of any help in our situation.
The assault on the town’s defensive grid also brought with it that bizarre energy field which rendered modern gadgets useless.
The weather outside is freezing, so we’re holed up here in this abandoned hunting cabin and I decided to make the most of our time by writing these notes. Or do we call them memoirs? A diary? I really don’t know.
We intend to reach another reported safe area across the border in Saskatchewan, Canada. Other safe zones were mentioned in the last report we heard but they’re all too far away for us. Hopefully, we’ll make it to an existing safe zone.
The list of sites, though, is shrinking day by day. But the report we have is now a week old, dated from the day before the Great Falls Defense Area fell. That’s in Montana, by the way. We’re lucky we got away. I really don’t know if it’s still valid–but what other option did we have?
I am human, by the way (in case some other entity gets hold of this record). We were the dominant species on this planet until what we call the Event happened.
Now, we don’t know who’s the top dog on this planet we call Earth.
Hell, we don’t even know what we’re sharing the place with.

Fantasy and science fiction have always been my favorites. I grew up with the stories. Especially those from the era of dime novels and genre magazines, the time when both fields were deemed fringe areas of fiction. Stories that spark the imagination and bring a reader to worlds and concepts beyond his reality. Though I have to admit, fact is fast catching up with science fiction.
I write fiction anchored on a familiar fact – be it mythology, historical events, existing mythos, or even a physical feature. Something that one knows exists in the real world. It makes immersion in the grand adventure easier and more enjoyable. A book may be an author’s creation, but it doesn’t mean there couldn’t be a common point of reference between the writer’s story and the reader’s experience. Or even between readers.
I started writing as a hobby. On free serialized novel websites. For the pleasure of writing and sharing one’s stories. I was fortunate that other people found them engaging and enjoyable. To my readers, thanks!
There are innumerable worlds out there. Explore, let your imagination fly. Unlike the protagonists in the stories, there is no dark Elder god, a tentacled monstrosity, a stabby assassin, a vampire or ten, or a vengeful deity waiting outside your door. Nor will opening a book suck you into a separate dimension. Maybe.
Enjoy the voyage. Have fun.
