Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I've written and published 10 novels and one nonfiction book. I've also written an anthology of short stories.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Birdie & Jude was inspired by a hurricane almost one year ago. Hurricane Harvey threatened our area and I started to think about what would happen if someone was discharged from the hospital after a tragic accident and the causeway and ferry service were closed and they had to shelter with a stranger.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I'm a pantser. I don't use an outline. I start with an idea about a situation or a character. When I begin writing, the story evolves.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Fannie Flagg, Sarah Addison Allen, Alice Hoffman, Phillipa Gregory, Danielle Steele. I like historical fiction and southern settings.
What are you working on now?
I'm working on a cozy mystery series. I've completed the first novel and part of the second. The main character will be an older woman, Meg Miller. In the first book, she will discover a dead body in a historic house slated for a candlelight homes tour. She's a volunteer, dressed in a Victorian costume and the body is shapely, blonde, and naked.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Read, read, read, and decide what your passion is. Write what you like and edit, edit, edit, edit. A writer's critique group is invaluable. Take constructive criticism and only write words that move the story.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Do what you love.
What are you reading now?
I'm reading Next Year in Havana by Chanel Cleeton
What’s next for you as a writer?
I hope to get another 6 books into the cozy mystery series.
What is your favorite book of all time?
To Kill a Mockingbird
