Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a thirty-five year old Christian missionary currently volunteering with a Christian organisation in the USA. I was a police officer for ten years prior to this.
I have written three books. Planet Police is my auto-biography about my experiences whilst working as a police officer in England. It was published in England in late 2015. My other two books are about my mission experiences–They're Rugby Boys, Don't You Know? is about working with street children addicted to solvents in the Philippines and The Logos Life is about serving on-board a Christian mission ship.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called The Logos Life. It details my two year journey on-board the world's largest floating book-fair, Logos Hope. I wanted to try to give people considering mission work a realistic picture of what to expect. There is also a fair amount of humour due to the cultural dynamics and strange situations I found myself in at times.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I tend to write constantly for a few weeks and then write nothing for a few months.
What are you working on now?
I have just published my latest book so I'm taking a break for now. I only write about my life experiences and right now I'm volunteering in a book warehouse so there is not a lot of activity to write about.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use Amazon and Goodreads and sometimes Librarything– I am an avid reader so I tend to focus on reading, blogging and writing reviews and just hope that people will stumble upon my work in the process of reading something else I have written. I don't like to do a lot of self promotion as people get tired of it.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
I would give the same advice that all writers give–keep writing books. Don't spend a lot of time on the marketing/promotion. It takes time to build a platform–sometimes years unless you get a "lucky" break. Ensure you have good content, a great looking cover and description and ask people to review your book if they enjoy it.
What are you reading now?
Im actually reading the final part in a trilogy called Price of Privilege. I didn't get on with the first two books but a fellow reader has convinced me to persevere so I'm finishing it off. I'm also reading a biography about the Christian evangelist DL Moody.
What’s next for you as a writer?
It depends on my experiences! Now that I understand the publishing process, I am always thinking of things that I could write about, but I don't want to bore people with mundane content. Maybe next year I will write something new….
What is your favorite book of all time?
The Bible of course! There is always something new to learn from God's Word.
