Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Even as a child, I wasn’t afraid of the things that went bump in the night. In fact, the thought of a world where werewolves roamed and Dracula reigned king was exciting to me. Instead of turning on a light for comfort, I reveled in the dark, imagining the lives of what was out there roaming the night and frightening those who didn’t truly appreciate how interesting the supernatural really were.
I started writing when I was in 7th grade. Mrs. Robertson, my English teacher at the time, confiscated one of the very first vampire stories I'd written (instead of doing the coursework). I thought I'd never get it back. A day or two passed and she gave it back to me with a little note asking that I continue the story and let her know how it ended. I've written ever since.
Currently, I have 2 young adult books and 7 adult books. I'm always working on something new.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Hale's Fury is my latest novel. It's book two in the Risen Series. The Risen Series follows the demon Hale, who has fallen for an angel.
I guess what inspired it is the idea of good/bad and their role reversal. Not all angels look out for our best interests and aren't all that good. Sometimes a person who has done many wrongs and made lots of mistakes can be redeemed.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don't think I have any strange or unusual habits when I write. Depending on what kind of scene I'm writing, I either need hard hitting music or dead silence. Typically after writing a scene, I like to read it aloud and I do use different voices to go with each character. It can be kind of comical, especially if they have a specific accent.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
How can I pick just one or two? There have been so, so many. There's been everything from romance, mystery, horror and erotica as influences. I started out reading the fantasy books by Piers Anthony and graduated to my mom's romances. I blame this on the crazy ideas I have sometimes.
What are you working on now?
I'm currently working on a young adult book. It will be the 3rd novel in The Bad Wolf Series. It has a tentative title of Caged.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
You just can't beat word of mouth. And of course, sites like My Book Place and Facebook are genius for promotion. 🙂
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes, the best advice I was ever given was this:
Read more, write more. Repeat.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Besides don't give up? lol
You can't write seriously if you don't read. Read, read, then read some more.
What are you reading now?
I'm not currently reading anything. I've been so busy with my own writing, it hasn't afforded me a lot of time to get much reading in. I'd love to pick up some great, quick, romantic reads.
What’s next for you as a writer?
As always, I am plotting new stories. I'm also continuing the Risen and Netherworld Series.
What is your favorite book of all time?
That's such a hard question to answer. I honestly fall in love with new books all the time. I absolutely love The Storm Chronicles by Skye Knizley. J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series will forever be a favorite.
