Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I'm an author of YA and Adult genre urban fantasy, crime and contemporary romance books. I was born in Northern Ireland, but spent much of my early life in London, United Kingdom, until my family relocated back to Northern Ireland.
I live in Northern Ireland, with my family where I am a full-time author. I studied English Literature and Creative Writing at The Open University and considered journalism as a career path.
I've written over 20 novels, and currently have 12 published.
I am both traditionally and independently published.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called, Beneath the Lighthouse.
Beneath the Lighthouse was inspired on one rainy Sunday about over two years ago. My family and I had taken a drive up the Antrim coast, and I remember daydreaming as I looked at the old stone building. That was when Jamie and Iliana’s story was born. I didn’t know it that day, but their journey would soon take over my life.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don't think I've any unusual writing habits, but I love complete silence when writing. I used to enjoy music playing in the background. But these days I find that it interrupts with my creativity.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I absolutely love James Patterson, Lee Child, Stephen King, Richelle Mead, Charlaine Harris, Leigh Russell, Jojo Moyes, P.C. Cast, Manuel Puig, Katherine Mansfield, Anne Rice to name a few.
What are you working on now?
I am writing a novel called What Lurks Within. I can’t say too much at this stage, but I can guarantee that my readers will be pleased and excited for this book.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
When it comes to promoting my work, I find Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are great platforms to get your work out there. Word of mouth is always the best way, but in a world where social media is easily accessible, it would be unwise to take advantage of their reachability.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Read as much as possible. I don't care what anyone says, a writer is a reader first and foremost. How can you possibly know what kind of stories you want to tell, if you don't read? Books inspire the writer within. Keep reading and the inspiration will flow.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Writing bring you happiness and fulfilment. And as Stephen King says, “I did it for the pure joy of the thing. And if you can do it for joy, you can do it forever.”
What are you reading now?
I'm currently reading Asking for It by Louise O'Neill
What’s next for you as a writer?
I have quite a few work commitments that need to be met. I am always writing, always creating new worlds. Forever busy.
What is your favorite book of all time?
The Color Purple by Alice Walker.
This book is my go-to-book whenever I really want to escape. It's raw. It's beautiful. It puts my own weary mind at ease. Just one of the most beautiful and tragic novels I've ever read.
