Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi! I'm Julia and I'm from Rochester, New York. I'm a relatively young author – still in college! THE RED FLAG is my debut novel and the start of what will hopefully be a long and successful writing career.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is THE RED FLAG. My primary goal in writing it was to subvert expectations about piracy created by Hollywood. I wanted to show readers how villainous pirates really were and tried to make it as historically accurate as I could.
What are you working on now?
Right now I'm working on a science fiction novel. It's set in another world where territories fight each other for control of the land. Two rival territories have been locked in a cold war for many years. The book begins with the cold war turning hot, and with the conflict spilling over into our own world. The main characters must not only take up arms in order to defend their territory, but also learn how to navigate the new setting in which they find themselves. It's going to be an exciting an entertaining read, and certainly much lighter than the dark tone of THE RED FLAG.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I love to use Goodreads, both as an author and as a reader. But I'm most active on Twitter. No matter what platform I use, I'm always trying to interact with readers and authors.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep reading. Keep reading.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I'm not sure who said it first, but the quote, "If you write a page a day then you'll have a novel in a year" has always kept me motivated.
What are you reading now?
I just finished reading THE GUARDSHIP by James L Nelson. There are a few other books that follow it that are on my list, but I haven't gotten to reading them yet. I'm also a fan of Django Wexler and Jim Butcher.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I'm going to keep writing. I have many plans for books and I hope to finish and publish them all. This is just the start of my writing career and I'm eager to dive into it!
What is your favorite book of all time?
Oh gosh… who knows!
