Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am fifty-two years old, married and I have written two books. I have worked in the insurance field in sales, training, and management for over 25 years. I gave up my job in 2017 to pursue my passion for writing. Health and fitness have been a hobby and vocation for 15 years. I am certified as a Personal Trainer with the Amercian College of Sports Medicine and I am a Certified Health Coach with The American Council on Exercise. I have become an avid researcher which has lead me to read dozens of books and thousands of reseaerch papers on health, nutrition, and exercise.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is titled "Flipping Your Fat Loss Switch Trigger Your Paleolithic Genes to Burn Fat. I was inspired by the Paleo diet movement. The idea of relying mostly on whole foods and using our ancestors' diets as a guide makes a lot of sense. When I was researching the diet I came across a number of studies that talked about the activities of our ancestors. Scientists identified the biochemcial and intercellular conditions that triggered gene expression and hypothesized that these genes evolved over millions of years. Our current lifestyle and exercise recommendations do nothing to support the expression of these genes. With the terrible health of our society only getting worse and little meaningful guidance coming from most health authorities, I believe that there is a need for this information.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really unusual, but I find that if I have a cup of coffee with MCT oil and butter, I write better. I also find that it is good to have dogs in the room when I write.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am a fan of Gary Taubes. He is a journalist as well as an author. He is an excellent researcher and his work in the field of nutrition has been very influential.
What are you working on now?
I have several projects on my agenda. I am currently researching the science that had been conducted on different foods and dietary supplements. I am interested in their ability to influence metabolism and help people lose weight, become healthy and live longer. I have learned that the mitochondria are really a central player in many chronic diseases. Foods and supplements that can preserve the health of mitochondria may help people avoid disease and lose weight.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Promotion seems to be about persistence more than anything. Unless you already have a social media following or some other claim to fame, promotion requires patience and persistence. You build your fan base one person at a time by appealing to their desire to be the best person they can be.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Never quit on your dream. If you love to write, you need to write. Just keep on writing no matter what. See your goals from the end.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Your imagination is the creative force that drives the universe. Never stop imagining.
What are you reading now?
I am reading several books. I like Neville Goddard who was a new age spiritual leader in the 1930's through the 1960's. I am reading a compilation of his lectures called "Immortal Man: The Greatest Lectures By The Visionary Mystic" and "Why Now is the Time to Crush It! Cash in on your Passion by Gary Vaynerchuk. It is about branding, business development, and social media.
What’s next for you as a writer?
There is a lot of great research on the mind-body connection and the power of our beliefs to affect our health. I am thinking that might be a fun topic to write on. I am also very spiritual and find that my insights help many people. I may want to dip my toes into that genre as well.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Illusions by Richard Bach.
