Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Christian W. Freed was born in Buffalo, N.Y. more years ago than he would like to remember. After spending more than 20 years in the active duty US Army he has turned his talents to writing. Since retiring, he has gone on to publish 17 military fantasy and science fiction novels, as well as his memoirs from his time in Iraq and Afghanistan. His first published book (Hammers in the Wind) has been the #1 free book on Kindle 4 times and he holds a fancy certificate from the L Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest.
Passionate about history, he combines his knowledge of the past with modern military tactics to create an engaging, quasi-realistic world for the readers. He graduated from Campbell University with a degree in history and is pursuing a Masters of Arts degree in Military History from Norwich University. He currently lives outside of Raleigh, N.C. and devotes his time to writing, his family, and their two Bernese Mountain Dogs. If you drive by you might just find him on the porch with a cigar in one hand and a pen in the other.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest novel is a called: So…You Want to Write a Book? how to book for fiction writing. I've been asked so many questions over the years that I decided to put it all down for the public to read. What makes it different from others? I spend a lot of time detailing my failures- as well as successes. I figure if I can help just one person then it was worth the effort.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. I write when the mood strikes or a deadline looms. I write faster and better with a little old school Iron Maiden blasting in the background.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I started with the classics as a child: Lord of the Rings, Dune, The Sword of Shannara. These all played key roles in my writing development.
What are you working on now?
My current project is called The Children of Never. It is a follow up story to my Writer's of the Future award winner: The Purifying Flame.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am still figuring it out! I have a website, facebook, twitter, a blog, and a few others out there. The real trick is learning out to create different content and making them work together- according to each site's strengths- for the total effort.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don't stop. Don't be afraid to ask for help. And don't ignore your inner voice.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Fear profits a man nothing. Think about it.
What are you reading now?
I am in between books right now. My mind can only take so much. The last book I read was Casino Infernale by Simon R Green.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I have so many different books revolving in my mind. Which one do I choose next? I really don't know.
What is your favorite book of all time?
I am a man of very few favorites. It took me 42 years to realize that navy blue was my favorite color. As far as books go, I could read the Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erickson over and over.
