Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Erin Saville, but my pen name is Aven Kelly. I grew up in Edmonton, Canada in a medium sized family with two siblings. I lived at home in Edmonton with my parents until 2011 when I moved to the UK to be with my then-boyfriend-now-husband Pete. I lived in the UK from 2011-2016 when my spousal visa expired and due to financial requirements that are nigh on impossible to meet for many Britons, we were forced to leave the UK to find a life elsewhere. Now we write for clients and travel around looking for the perfect place to call home.
I've (to date) written only one full length novel, 'Formaldehyde' which I've just recently re-released.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is titled 'Formaldehyde' and the inspiration for it came in 2007 when I was in a desperately unhappy relationship which became abusive and neglectful. I wrote Formaldehyde as a means of escape. Over time after I left the relationship I managed to hone it into something more coherent and enjoyable, and not just a cry for help.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to write my darker stuff at night over a drink or two. I also almost always tend to write the middle or end of the novel then the beginning then lace them together. I'm not quite sure why, but for some reason it works!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Definitely Edgar Allen Poe and most of his dark stories. I particularly liked Berenice and The Cask of Amontillado.
What are you working on now?
I'm working on the sequel to Formaldehyde, my working title is Origins, but I may change it to Retribution.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook – all the promotional pages are super helpful!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Learn as much as you can from others like yourself. Indie Authors are a huge wealth of knowledge!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just write. It will keep you in the mindset.
What are you reading now?
I'm currently reading 'And The Dogs Were Silent' by Jere Alexander as well as 'In Wartime: Stories From Ukraine' by Tim Judah
What’s next for you as a writer?
I'm hoping to finish the sequel to Formaldehyde shortly and publish it as well, and then work on the final instalment of the series, a third book which I will probably title 'Origins' about the really twisted background of the main antagonist, Jack as told from his point of view.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Definitely Edgar Allen Poe. He was the bomb.
