Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Allison Boot. My novel, Just the Way You Are which was published in 2015 under my maiden name Allison M. Lewis , is a modern-day fairy-tale targeted to tween audiences. While, in part, it pays homage to William Shakespeare through selected elements of both A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Romeo and Juliet, it is also reminiscent of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid. In this story, Misty Miles, the princess of a faraway land known as Starryton, is like any other woman of her station – except for her disability.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My desire to change the way kids and young adults see those with disabilities as well as my desire to spread a message of self-acceptance to young girls with disabilities is largely what inspired Just the Way You Are.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No, except for the fact that, unlike many other authors, I don't force myself to write each day because I do not like for my writing to be forced.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Jane Austen, Karen Kingsbury, Susan Mallery, Nicholas Sparks and countless more
What are you working on now?
I plan to publish my second novel, The Magic Within, in early 2018. The Magic Within is a story that highlights that importance of equality for people with disabilities. The adventure centers around a man with a disability and his search for inner peace while on a quest for acceptance and equality that ultimately leads to him battling a dragon to rescue his true love.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Honestly, I am still trying to figure out what the best promotion method is for myself.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write as much as you can without forcing it and never give up.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Life never turns out the way you think it is going to…just roll with it.
What are you reading now?
Ever After by Karen Kingsbury
What’s next for you as a writer?
A book about a man and and woman who are both in a wheelchair. More details to come.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Pride & Prejudice. I believe it is one of the most eloquent books ever written.
