Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am currently a student at California State University, Fullerton studying for Bachelor’s Degree in Music Composition. In my free time, I write, listen to music and I like to draw. I have one published children’s book, which I’m hoping will be the first installment of a three-part series.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The book is called “Roderick Roach”, and deals with an eleven-year-old boy who goes to a school for children with super-powers. Roderick’s friend is the famous and very popular Ezra Stone, who has great powers and saves the school from a looming danger. I was inspired primarily by Harry Potter, but wanted to write something in the POV of a sidekick.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
None that I know of; I believe that a writer should be able to write in any condition, at any place, at any time and to let inspiration come to you.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have been influenced from popular books like Hamlet, Harry Potter, and a long list of others, but I am constantly looking for new authors that excite me and inspire me to read.
What are you working on now?
Along with the Rod Roach series, I am also working on books about magic and distant lands. Hopefully I will be able to write a story where magic and real-life collide.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Twitter is definitely the best site for new authors to promote their new book. Other sites include Pinterest, Tumblr and a list of others, but I’d say Twitter is the best.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Start developing your author platform early. Book marketing is changing very, very rapidly and it always helps to get as much knowledge and training as possible.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Chances are, the odds of publishing your book are against you.” Something I remember my creative writing teacher in school told everyone in class. Considering how publishing books is like nowadays, I’d say he couldn’t be any more right about that.
What are you reading now?
I have taken an interest in reading blogs from people all over the Internet, usually from things that I like, such as fantasy, adventures and meeting new friends. Hopefully one day I’ll write a book about blogs or a story about a blogger.
What’s next for you as a writer?
For me, a writer always has to just keep on writing. I will continue to work on music composition and all it has to offer, but writing has been and always will be a great passion of mine.
What is your favorite book of all time?
I don’t have a “favorite” book. Particularly because there are so many great books out there that it’s hard to pick out your favorite one.
