Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Oh I have written hundreds of books! How many have actually been published is a different matter LOL I had my first publication with Dark Hollows Press last year and they have been kind enough to publish six of my books and a couple of stories in a collection with other DHP authors.
I have always wanted to write, but for years life got in the way. It always amazes me the twists and turns of life. This is absolutely the life I never planned on having, its not bad just different. I lost my husband of thirty years, six years ago. Our youngest son married and moved out and suddenly I found myself alone for the first time in my life. With only a dog and a cat who don’t talk much I had to find a way to entertain myself or go crazy. I decided to start writing down the stories that always seemed to be running through my head. I quickly found out that the people in my head could keep my entertained. So I hoped that others would find them just as fun.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest comes out 7/3/15. Its the first in a series The Men of Tennessee Colton’s Story Stone Hard. It was inspired by a wonderful friend who made the suggestion that I do a series, about men in Tennessee, its my first series by the way 🙂 I have lived in Tennessee all my life however, and I love down home country boys. I hope others will too.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Well I don’t know how unusual it is but I tend to write with either music or the TV playing and I have two or three books going sometimes at once. Whoever is speaking the loudest in my head gets written at that time. My dog Sammie lets me know when it’s time for a break because I can literally write for hours if I get in the zone.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
There is so many good authors and so many good books. I will never finish all the books that are loaded to my kindle, but that doesn’t keep me from loading more every weekend. But some of my favorites include Karen Robards, Judith McNaught, Julie Garwood and Anne Stuart.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on the second book in the Men of Tennessee series. It will be Beau’s story and will be called Carved in Stone. You will met Beau briefly in Stone Hard, but he will have his hands full with Delaney!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
We are blessed at DHP to have a wonderful marketing person by the name of Eden Connors she always helps and encourages us by sending us to wonderful sites such as this, thank you! I also use FB as well as Twitter.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just write and don’t be discouraged if it doesn’t go where you want it to, you may just wind up with a happy surprise. Let the story go where it wants to go and don’t try to force it somewhere it’s not meant to be. Write what you love and read what makes you happy.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
My Aunt Chichi always said, “You never know until you try.”
She was so right!
What are you reading now?
The Outlander series….WOW!
What’s next for you as a writer?
I will keep writing and hoping someone wants to publish and others want to read. But if I never publish another book I will always write.
What is your favorite book of all time?
This is so hard to answer, but there are a few that stand out. As a child my Uncle Roy gave me a little Golden Book titled Little Mommy. I loved that book so much and still own it to this day.
Three months into my marriage, my husband went to the story and came back with a book for me (that’s when I knew this marriage thing was going to work out) That book was Julie Garwood’s Honor’s Splendour. I have read that book so many times, and now it means so much to me knowing that he had bought if for me.
