Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Just starting my fourth novel. It's always been a fight to write because, whilst male authors often have a wife to deal with life ordinary practicalities, we female authors have to do all that and write!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Bittersweet was inspired by the tales of male outrageous behaviour to women through the ages. Women as a commodity, to be used! I hate that.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes, I play with my collection of kaleidoscopes as I try to write through a sticky patch.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Everything I have ever read has influenced me for better or worse.
What are you working on now?
The new novel is set in India and New Zealand in 1898 – 1900. My heroine has to cope with some appalling events in her life without being crushed.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you want to write you must read widely and deeply and then devote a time slot to writing. The 3Ds, dedication, discipline, and determination are what you need to write well and publish.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Edit, edit, and then edit.
What are you reading now?
C.J. Cherryh's Foreigner series.
What’s next for you as a writer?
tutoring would be writers at summer school and getting Indies treated with respect in New Zealand.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Right now I think it's The Wind in the Willows', but it changes as I find and reread old friends.
