Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is ML Rodriguez, and I am a contemporary romance author who uses a touch of supernatural in her stories. I adore everything coffee, chocolate, and buffalo dip. So far, I've written three complete novels and have two novels I'm working on; all with interconnecting characters.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My most recent novel is titled, THIS I PROMISE YOU. This story is about Jake Duval's, the man who dreamed of Phoenix–my basis for my upcoming Men of Phoenix Series–and loved Faith Duval first–the main character of my debut novel, LEAP OF FAITH, and book one in my La Flor Series.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don't know if you would consider them "unusual" habits but I must have candy–chocolate, Wild Berry Skittles, or green or red Jolly Ranchers–and a drink as I write. Music must be blaring computer, and I must not be disturbed. If I'm in the living room on my laptop, the lights must be off. However, if I'm at my computer desk, the lights must be on.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Authors such a Colleen Hoover, Aurora Rose Reynolds, Brandace Morrow, and many more . . . authors who have followed their dreams are an inspiration.
What are you working on now?
I'm currently working on book one of my Men of Phoenix Series. The main character, Gunner, you meet in my previous three novels. This series will focus on the men and the ups and downs of their lives, along with them finding love.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes! Releasing a book is stressful. There will be times where you will be glued to your computer, so create a schedule for yourself. Take time for your family, even if that deadline is looming near, and stretch your legs. Also, don't be discouraged if you don't sell tons of books, because as long as you put forth the effort and finish writing a novel, THAT is success in my book. You are following your dream so believe in yourself.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Something my husband always tells our children, "When things get hard, just keep trying." If you hit that writer's block wall, don't give up. If you don't sell, don't give up. If you receive a negative review, don't give up. Whatever you do, DON'T GIVE UP, always try.
What are you reading now?
Currently, I'm rewarding myself with a historical romance novel by Anna Harrington.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Next for me, I must continue to learn as I write. With every book, I've learned something new–from editing, formatting, structuring, writing–and I've taken those lessons to heart.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Goodness, to pick my all-time favorite book of all times, is hard. There are so many I've read and loved. Though, I must say that PRIDE AND PREJUDICE by Jane Austen is one that has always been with me. I wrote papers on Ms. Austen's work in high school and college.
