Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi everyone. I'm Meredith from Queensland, Australia. I am a Mum to two daughters and my household also consists of two cats and a spoiled golden retriever dog named Tessie. I have been a born-again Christian since 2010 and my relationship with Jesus is the foundation to my life that everything else flows from. I love to cook, read, travel and go bushwalking. I have written two books so far – one a Christian devotional and one of poetry, chronicling my journey through depression – with ideas for two more.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called "Hearing His Voice – Meeting Jesus in the Garden of Promise". It was inspired by a time last year when I was going through a hugely challenging time – including divorce, relocation to a larger city, resignation from a long-time job and the mystery illness of my autistic daughter – and during this time I leaned in especially close to Jesus. The book is the result of recorded conversations I had with Him, where He encouraged, uplifted and soothed me, dispelling the isolation, exhaustion and worry I had been experiencing.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Due to being a carer for my adult autistic daughter, I can't always bank on uninterrupted writing time. Instead, I write in "bits and pieces", taking time here and there when I can. I also like to write at night and have plenty of water close by.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
The Bible is a huge influence on my life – nothing matches this amazing collection of 66 God-breathed books chronicling God's plan of redemption and forgiveness. I have also been very influenced by CS Lewis, with the Chronicles of Narnia being my favourites. Stephen King and the poet William Blake have both inspired me with their rich imagery and powerful themes.
What are you working on now?
I am about to publish a book of poetry, chronicling my journey through depression in my 20s
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am just learning about promotion so as yet I don't have a best method or website. I am trusting that "My Book Place" will fit the bill!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
I advise new authors to either write about (A) what they have experienced or (B) what burns inside their imagination, depending on the genre they are writing in. Don't give up on writing your book or books – the world needs to hear your stories!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Everybody has a story to tell!
What are you reading now?
I am reading Corrie ten Boom's story and also Oprah Winfrey's biography.
What’s next for you as a writer?
My next book is my story of how I moved from New Age philosophies to becoming a born-again Christian. Then I hope to write about life with my autistic daughter.
What is your favorite book of all time?
My favourite book of all time is the Bible
