Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a total book hoarder! As a child, I carried books everywhere and often bumped into things because my nose was in a book. After graduating with a degree in English, I pursued a law degree and practiced for 10 years in a big city. The city gave me access to author readings and book groups and I amassed quite a collection of signed first editions. I still collect them. Instead of a formal living room, we have a library. My husband isn’t much of a reader, but my son has a rather impressive collection. He has a stack of 20 or so by his bed at any given time.
I’ve been writing all my live, but only just decided to publish. I’d never pursued publishing until my friends encouraged me after I shared one of my books on a beach trip.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Bits of Me is my first published book. It’s inspired by true events – fictionalized of course! I can’t tell any more than that!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to write in my bed. We have this lovely old home (aside from the roof leak that no roofer can find) and there’s a wonderful big fireplace in our bedroom. It’s a great romantic room that inspires writing. This drives my husband up the wall. Typing in bed is not particularly romantic he thinks. If only he read what I was writing!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
There are far too many to mention. As I said, we’re a family of book hoarders. I’ve read each and every book in this house and been affected in some way by each of them.
What are you working on now?
Hmmm…I have another romance that’s probably about 3/4 done about friends who are reluctant to become lovers but have an undeniable attraction to each other. Again, it’s set on a horse farm.
I’m also working on a darker read. Sometimes I have to walk away from it because it’s mentally draining. I’ve had to place myself in the main character’s head and it’s a disturbing place to be. I’m not sure what’s going to happen, but I don’t see a HEA for this one.
I’m also editing some of my older stuff to get it ready for publication.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’ve only just started so I’m working on building social media relationships. When I get more books out there, I may pursue other avenues.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just write. Have fun.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Ever? Really? I don’t know where to begin!
What are you reading now?
I’m re-reading To Kill a Mockingbird. Again.
And I’m reading Pat Conroy’s latest about his father. I adore Pat Conroy. He has his own section in my library – quite a few are signed.
And I’m reading Lauren Hillenbrand’s Unbroken. Loved Seabiscuit as well.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m having an awfully lot of fun writing and publishing. It’s quite an adventure. Perhaps not as lucrative as practicing law, but more rewarding!
What is your favorite book of all time?
I can’t. Just don’t make me go there!
