Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a teacher and coach in Las Vegas, Nevada. I am originally from Salt Lake City, Utah. I went to Snow College and Idaho State University where I played college football. I was team captain and team MVP at both colleges. I have a master’s degree and teach college level, AP classes. I am married to my wonderful wife and we have an amazing son. I have been writing since my college days, but Down, Set, Hut is my first book.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Down, Set, Hut: The Untold Story of College Football is my latest book. My experience playing college football inspired the book.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to write silly short science fiction stories occasionally.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
When I was thinking about writing a book I read a line from Jimmy Buffett’s introduction to his book. He said, “write what you know about.” This influenced me to write about college football.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on a couple of things now. I am working on a story about a crazy year in a high school. I’m also getting a lot of requests to write more about Charlie, the main character from Down, Set, Hut. So, I am brainstorming ideas about Charlie’s later life.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just start writing. It is a lot of time and energy, but it is worth it in the end. You won’t ever have the perfect time to start, you just have to go for it.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
You can’t make everyone happy.
What are you reading now?
The Golden Age by Gore Vidal.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I have a few books I would like to write one of these days. Like I mentioned earlier, the story about a crazy year in high school that I am working on and a sequel to Down, Set, Hut. Then I have a good science fiction book, a coming of age book, and a book about a man realizing he used to have DID. At some point these are all books I want to get out.
What is your favorite book of all time?
The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay
