Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a romance writer, paranormal and rock star. I live in Austin, Tx with my husband and daughter and over abundance of rescue animals. I am currently doing this interview from my bed with a massive pit bull laying in my lap. I have 5 books self published on kindle and one book that was just released with Boroughs Publishing yesterday! (I’m in bed from celebrating release day too hard last night) I love to read romance novels as well as all the good classics. Writing started as a dream/hobby that has slowly become my reality. And I couldn’t be more pumped about it.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The last book I completed was Play Nice, which is book one of The Devil’s Share series. It was released through Boroughs Publishing yesterday!! Play Nice was inspired by a few things; my good friend Angela and her love for her rock star of a baby brother. My deep love for Aerosmith and Joe Perry’s autobiography Rocks. And lastly, just my blatant love for bad boys, sex, and rock and roll.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Hmmm…unusual? I don’t think so. If I can’t get a sex scene right then I try to drink some wine to loosen me up. and between you and I, I’ve even YouTube’d hot sex scenes in movies to get, uh, inspired. Oh, and I absolutley can not write in a messy room, I clean before I sit down to write.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
When I was in high school I read all the classics like The Great Gatsby, To Kill a Mocking Bird, Dracula…in college I read all of Jaquelin Susan’s novels and I LOVED them. I’ve read all the Harry Potter books…I just finished The Guitar Face Series by Sasha Marshall and I really enjoyed that. I’ve read 100’s of romance novels over the years! I think good books influence me. I feel like everything we read leaves a little something behind in us, in our hearts or brains. Every book I’ve ever written influenced me in some way, whether I knew it or not.
What are you working on now?
Play Fair!!! The next book in The Devil’s Share series. I’ve never written a book under a publisher like this, I always just wrote when I felt like writing and now I feel a small urgency to get it done. It’s nice to have someone light a little fire under my sexy ass!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’ve just kind of joined this self promotion game, but I really like Facebook. And I made my own website, www.lpmaxa.com so hopefully my books will drive some traffic that way. Also, I think as writers we can really help each other out with promotion. I reached out to Sasha Marshall after I read some of her work, and we’ve really been helping each other the past few weeks. One of my fellow boroughs authors Kathrine McIntyre has also been really helpful with posts and retweets. We need to boost each other up!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write. All your thoughts, all your ideas, write them down. Don’t be afraid to sit down and just start typing. The only way to get better at something is to practice, to do it. So WRITE! And you have to learn to take constructive criticism, but don’t let people walk all over your work. If you believe in it, believe in it with your whole heart. Others will come around.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Write clear and hard about what hurts.”
I think that we need to write what we feel, what we know. If you’ve never experienced lust or love or heartbreak or mind blowing sex…how can you even behind to put it into words for someone else. You can’t write what you don’t feel, it just comes out forced.
What are you reading now?
Solid Ground by Katherine McIntyre and Relentess by Skye Jordan
Both really good books. I just started Solid Ground this afternoon and Relentless is the next in a dries by Sky Jordan that I love. But to be honest, the first book in the series was my FAV, it’s the best one.
What’s next for you as a writer?
More writing for sure. I have three more books for The Devil’s Share series and at least two more in my St. Leasing series (it’s a self published shifter series and it’s really fun!) Oh, and I’m hoping HBO will fall in love with The Devil’s Share series and decide to make it a show/movie. Then I’ll get to cast and meet all my Hollywood crushes. I’m talking to you Charlie Hunnam, Norman Reedus, and Taylor Kitsch!
What is your favorite book of all time?
What?! How could I ever choose?! I really loved The Great Gatsby. There was a book I read when I was younger, I read it over and over. It was called Say Goodnight, Gracie and I can’t remember who wrote it, but I loved that book. It was heartbreaking and so damn good.
