Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is LJ Evans and my debut novel, my life as a country album, came out in April of 2017. It has won an award with the Independent Author Network as Young Adult Book of the Year, and has over 95% 5-star rating on Amazon. I have two more books in the my life as an album series that will be coming out in 2018 and into 2019. I've been writing all my life, and have had several screenplays that went to the quarter and semi-finals of several screenplay competitions. I hope to continue to publish for the Young Adult and New Adult book world!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
my life as a country album is my debut novel. It was inspired by all the old Taylor Swift songs. My daughter and I have been huge fans of hers, and we were going to see her Red concern, so we had her songs on repeat in the car. As I listened to the songs, Cam and Jake's story unfolded in my mind, and they wouldn't go away until I wrote their story down. My sister finally pushed me into self-publishing the novel, and it's gotten a great response from readers of all ages and who typically love a wide variety of genres.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I am not much of an outline ahead of time person, but I usually start by writing as if the main character is telling me their backstory. It gives me a good insight into who they are and where they are going. Then, I like to take the story wherever it leads me. Sometimes I have to go back and change it, but normally the character leads me down the right path.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I read a wide variety of genres, but the authors and books that have most influenced my current writing are Amy Harmon (any of her books), Jessica Park especially the Flat-Out series and 180 Seconds, and CJ Archer's novels.
What are you working on now?
I'm currently working on my life as a pop album which is the second in the my life as an album series.
Good Girl Mia feels guilty for her brother's death. It was her kidney that killed him after all…
Four years later, Mia is still trying to pretend that she's got it all together. She's holds the family business and her parent's happiness in her hand. She's the only the child they have left.
So, how on earth does this Good Girl end up on a cross country road trip caving and touring with sexy musician, Derek Waters? And what will become of Good Girl Mia when he's done with her?
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Promoting my book has been done via Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads, Team Romance, BargainBooksy, and ManyBooks.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
I really consider myself a new author, but I would say write. Write a lot. And then connect with other authors. I've gotten the best advice on marketing, covers, and content from a group that I connected with over social media.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write for yourself first. Everything else will fall into place after that.
What are you reading now?
I'm currently reading an ARC of Heal Me by Alexandra page.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Keep writing in the New Adult genre, and try to find an agent in today's competitive market.
What is your favorite book of all time?
This is a really hard question. I would have to say Pride and Prejudice, although that seems so obvious. Perhaps Me Before You by JoJo Moyes as well
