Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi! I'm Laura Greenwood, a paranormal & contemporary NA author! I currently have five released books (two fantasy fairy tale retellings, two paranormal romances and one new adult contemporary romance). I also have short stories published in a couple of anthologies!
Other than writing, I work as a Catering Supervisor, and am a Brownie Guide (that's Girl Scouts for anyone in the US!) Leader. I also love to bake, and to cook!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is The Vixen's Bark, the second in my Paranormal Council series. It's completely standalone, but has ties to the previous book, as well as what will be the next book! I was inspired to write it after meeting Ari and Bjorn in The Dryad's Pawprint (the first Paranormal Council book!) The two of them just begged to have their story written, and it turned out to be so much more than I expected it to be!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I wouldn't say unusual really! I like noise, and I can write anywhere! I tend to carry a notebook around with me all the time, just so that I don't get caught out! But then again, I doubt that's an unusual habit!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Oh goodness this list could go on for days! But here's a very basic list.
– Dracula by Bram Stoker, I love how traditionally evil Stoker's vampires are! Plus, I fell in love with this book the first time I read it.
– The Harry Potter series by JK Rowling, because of how those books made me feel as a child. I remember the excitement of waiting for one of them on release day, as well as talking to my friends about them!
– The Mistborn Series by Brandon Sanderson. I've always been a fan of his, and his ingenious magic systems are just so inspiring!
What are you working on now?
I'm not sure what the best way to answer this is! I should be working on Spellbound, a standalone paranormal romance that is set in the same world as my others, but not actually connected. However, the creative part of my brain has gone off on a tangent and has started writing the third Paranormal Romance book, the Necromancer's Prey. I also have a sword & sorcery fantasy in the works!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
So far the best method for me seems to be cross-promoting with other authors! Plus, it's helped me find some amazing new books to read.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write! Just put the pen to paper, or the fingers to keys, and write whatever comes into your head!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Stop thinking about what other people want you to do. Do what you want to do.
Until it comes to book branding, then do what your readers expect you to do!
What are you reading now?
I'm currently reading The Copper Witch by Jessica Dall. It's different!
What’s next for you as a writer?
Sword & Sorcery fantasy! I'm loving the paranormal for now, but when I first started writing it was in that genre, and I'd love to get back to it!
What is your favorite book of all time?
The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson. I love Vin as a main character. I love the setting and the world building. And I adored Elend. There's just so much about this book (and this series!) to love.
