Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I live in Vancouver, British Columbia with my life-partner and cat. When I'm not writing, I'm trying to grow vegetables on the balcony. I've written two solo novels and I'm the co-writer of the YA series The Synth Series.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Ultra Blue is the name of my newest novel. It's about a young woman's brief but toxic relationship with a notorious gang leader. Many things inspired this story, many things which are difficult to discuss.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to write when I first wake up and right before I go to bed.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
There are too many books to mention, but the readability and story flow of Patrick Rothfuss and John Green are qualities I aspire to incorporate in my writing.
What are you working on now?
I'm working on the first book of a new series. It doesn't have a title yet!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I'm not sure if I have a method, I'm just happy to have my books shared.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Edit, edit, edit. And then edit some more. Even then there are still going to be mistakes that slip through the cracks.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“You can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world, and there's still going to be somebody who hates peaches.”
― Dita Von Teese
For me this is a humbling reality check–that I can pour my heart and soul and my best work into something, and someone could completely hate it and there's nothing I can do about it. And also, if someone hates it then that's okay too.
What are you reading now?
The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler
What’s next for you as a writer?
To keep writing.
What is your favorite book of all time?
There are too many books that I haven't read for me to answer this properly. For the time being I would have to say The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath.
