Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Master mariner by profession and poet by passion, I am born and brought up in Dehradun. Joined shipping at the age of 18 as trainee navigational officer and since then have taken expedition round the globe, n number of times. 12 years down the line, I still enjoy sailing as this was what I always wanted to do. But I used to write since my school days, be it poetry or story, I always used to find a place in my school magazine for same. Once I joined shipping, I never gave up writing. In fact people and new places always inspired me to write. My topic for poems were little different as I have been practicing spirituality since my childhood, I always used to write on that, death being my favorite topic.
But it was not until 2013 when I seriously thought of publishing my poems, as I found motivation from lot of people to bring my poetry to the daylight. That was when my first book “kuch khwaab sagar se”came into existence and luckily it found place into people’s heart so soon. I was called to France to discuss my work and was felicitated there by “house of life” and rotary club. Upon returning to India I was felicitated by Nautical institute, London and nominated for sailors today award 2014 in exemplary personal achievement category.
The book was then translated into French and can be read as “le moineau dans le mirror”.
This year I was approached by organisers for international film festival to launch my next book “unanswered” at their event. Thus “unanswered” came into existence, launched by famous film director mr sudheer Mishra

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Unanswered, I know it is quite an unusual kind of title for a book of poems barring a few articles
Unanswered is all about finding the answers which lay deeply hidden in the core of our hearts but we fail to discover it as we are covered with fog of ego and desires. Unanswered is all about revealing those answers.
Non fiction cum poetic novel are based on life as question and answers. Each poem is supported by an article explaining the poem and reason behind writing same.
So much of questions in me which in turn coming from this mortal world led me to find answers for same and giving solace in this painful world. Why is there pain and sufferings, why do we die, what is morality, how can we become immortals are among those many questions which one will find answers to in my book in a very very simplified form. If my writing can bring peace into someone’s life that would solve the purpose for which book was written.
“From where it came, there shall it go”
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
You can take a man out of poems but never a poet out of a man. This is what I truly believed.I would like to share an incidence with you while I was sailing .Our ship got trapped between two passing cyclones and it was rolling and pitching heavily. All ship crew were running here and there, scared for their lives but I stood there on top very relaxed and composed, enjoying the battering of weather. My captain came to me and asked me why I was smiling,I said “sir, mother nature is trying to embrace us by waves and winds, and we stupid humans are tryng to save ourselves from such beauty of love”
This whole incidence describes,a difference between a Captain and a poet.Journey to this level from captain to poet, has definitely been filled with doldrums but each person, place, wrath of nature I met were all experinces which have taken form of poems and have found place in my books. Each poem is inspired from real event or people, which you can easily find out after reading the book
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love reading books and poems and I always believe that all will leave you one day but never your books since you might not have them physically but they will always be in your heat and soul, once you have read them.I wouldn’t really like to point out towards particular authors, since I love reading all but Sri Aurobindo’s Savitri has truly inspired me spiritually.I enjoy William wordsworth’s poems on nature while Keats symphony with sadness. But nothing can surpass Boris Polevoy’s novel “ The Real man” and Maxim Gorki’s “The Mother” in Literature
What are you working on now?
My next is a fiction novel “journey to the next level” about what happens when a soul of a man gets trapped between life and death and when another souls goes out on a search and his relief. Here people will get an insight and in-depth idea about life after death and journey after.
