Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a lawyer turned novelist. I have written three novels and am on my fourth, plus two non-fiction books.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The latest book I have written is called “A Patriot’s Act.” It’s about a naturalized US citizen who is visiting a relative in his native Iraq, is in the wrong place at the wrong time and ends up indefinitely detained and tortured in Guantanamo Bay.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. I just write when I am inspired. Sometimes there are huge gaps between inspiration, and sometimes it just goes on for days.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I like a lot of authors, but my favorites are the classic ones, like Steinbeck and Dickens.
What are you working on now?
The third novel in the Brent Marks Legal Thriller Series, called “HOA Wire.” The president of the local homeowners association is murdered and every resident in the neighborhood is a suspect.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have tried them all (except for Book Bubs, which is the holy grail.) Buckbooks.net and ereadernewstoday.com are the best. They both have good mailing lists which will boost your 99 cent on sale book about 50-100 sales.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
It’s a jungle out there! Just don’t give up.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I have yet to hear it.
What are you reading now?
Gray Mountain by John Grisham
What’s next for you as a writer?
My last novel is being published by a traditional publishing house this summer. I would like to hang up my law hat and go into full time writing.
What is your favorite book of all time?
A Tale of Two Cities
