Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I recently moved to the beautiful isle of Anglesey, which is just off the North Wales coast. I live with my husband and elderly Yorkshire Terrier.
I’ve written 3 themed short story collections and 2 novels so far.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called The Truth Will Out and is due for release in the summer. I’ve had the story in my head for a long time, ever since a saw the film Blink starring Madelaine Stowe and Aiden Quinn. As I wrote, it developed into a thriller with the main character having a quirky sense of humour. I’m noticing all my lead characters tend to have this trait.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m not sure whether it’s unusual, but once I have edited a book, I send it to my kindle. I feel like I am reading a ‘real book’ and any flaws seem to stand out. It’s been very helpful to get the editing right.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I do love Norah Roberts. She has a great style of writing. I describe myself as a romance/suspense writer. She has the formula just right. Her books are more than just romance, and that’s what I’m aiming for.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on a sequel to Joanna’s Journey. This moves the action forward into the 1990s and we see whether Joanna is happy with the choices she made. As always it is never straight forward and she finds herself on a new path with an uncertain future.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m still fairly new to promoting. What I do really like is teasers. A provocative photo with a line or two from the book that leaves the reader intrigued.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
I would say firstly that less is more. Too many new writers spell it all out for the readers. They like to feel the emotion for themselves rather than being told how they should feel.
Secondly just write, just let your muse flow and when you have finished you can do any changes or corrections then.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
That less is more. For example – They kissed tenderly. That says more than – He kissed her lips gently and felt her loving response as she kissed him softly back.
What are you reading now?
I have just finished reading How I Lost You by Jenny Blackhurst. A brilliant thriller.
What’s next for you as a writer?
To finish Joanna’s Destiny and then to move on to my 4th novel which has a working title of Saffron’s Struggle. A strong female lead fighting for her rights and set in the Middle Ages.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Sidney’s Sheldon’s Rage of Angels was the one I’ll remember the most. Although there are so many good books around now I often have a favourite, but I haven’t read them as many times as I’ve read that one!
