Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I grew up in Colorado and love living here. I work as a chef and in my spare time I love developing new recipes to share with my readers on my blog all my new ideas. I get inspired everyday with people, art galleries, reading cookbooks, and trying new ingredients. This is my first cookbook and I plan to write a few more in time.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest cookbook is called Nosh with Chef Julie: 50 Recipes for the Everyday with 10 Ingredients or Less! I was inspired for the past few years with culinary school, fellow students, and great teachers being in the field, and trying new foods. It was a wonderful place to discover and try new things I was yearning for. My own passion is with food and how it connects us and brings people, life, and memories together.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I'm usually on my laptop writing in my pajamas, drinking black coffee and music playing in the background.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I've read so many cookbooks over the years, and pull inspiration from so many places. I love to read fantasy novels with magic, and heroine stories where women save the day. My current obsession is M. J.Rose, and I love the Storm Siren series from Mary Weber. As far as cookbooks go for traditional I love The Joy of Cooking, and for my love of science, The Food Lab, and Modernist Cuisine is also a favorite. I'm always looking in the cookbook section of my library to see what's new with vegan and vegetarian dishes too.
What are you working on now?
Right now I'm working on promoting this cookbook, It's only been out for a few weeks now. I am working on different ideas for my next cookbook….possibly more dessert orientated, and maybe even a 5 ingredient cookbook will be in my future endeavors.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Going to local bookstores and meeting new people in the industry. Making connections, and creating future engagements and book signings. Reaching out to other authors and getting ideas from them also is a great resource, and websites like this!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
The best advice I can give is if you want to become an author trust yourself and make it happen. Write what's in your heart and make your dream come true. Don't get overwhelmed by the whole process of writing a book, just take one day at a time and it will come. Believe in yourself and you can make it happen!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
To embrace each moment, to be brave when all is lost, and that there is always hope. Be the change you want to see in the world. To believe in yourself and never stop dreaming.
What are you reading now?
Currently I'm reading The Library of Light and Shadow by M. J. Rose.
What’s next for you as a writer?
To keep learning and discovering new things, creating new recipes, and venture on to my second cookbook.
