Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m run a Helpdesk for a company by day and write by night (or whenever there’s free time). I started writing for magazines (Windows IT Pro) back in the mid-1990s, but always wanted to write a book.
I’m the father of five, all in college or late high school aged. I enjoy doing CrossFit, drinking good coffee, beer and wine. I have lived all over the world and yet have never been to Hawaii!
My greatest hope is that “As you read my writings, I hope that my books and words will inspire your change, growth and a better life for you and your family”.
I live and write, surrounded by the beautiful lush greenery of the Pacific Northwest near Bellingham, Washington.
YOU, UNLEASHED!: Mastering the Success Mindset, Overcoming Obstacles, and Living a Life That Matters! is my first book, of hopefully many.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
YOU, UNLEASHED!: Mastering the Success Mindset, Overcoming Obstacles, and Living a Life That Matters!
I wanted to write a book that succinctly provided discussion and solutions for overcoming common obstacles I and others face in their lives. Further, I wanted to expand on it and provide help to setup the environment for success and living a life that matters. Finally, I wanted to give people the way to truly live a life that matters. My goal was to provide all of this in a coherent, short read, that provided steps people could take, rather than just dry “how I was successful” methods that so many other books have.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I listen to uplifting trance music (Aly & Fila, Lazarus (Defcon) and uplifting trance on Soundcloud are favorites. Further, I drink green tea with lemon and let myself have 10 peanut M&M’s for every 1,000 words I write.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Jon Land, fiction writer and friend whom I met for the first time in the Fall 2014 motivated me to write a book when I was 19. It only took 30 years for me to follow through!
Also, William Zinser’s “On Writing Well”
How to Write a Non-Fiction Book in 21 Days” by Steve Scott
What are you working on now?
My follow-up to “You, UNLEASHED”.. which is a book on being 1% better in all aspects of our lives, physically, mentally, relationally, and spiritually.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
– Buck Books has been big
– BKNights Fiverr promo was also big
– Tom Corson-Knowles free offer to promote in his “Best-Sellers” Udemy course.
– Posting to a large list of FB and Twitter accounts.
– I’ve paid for some promos through some online services, but want to stay within my budget.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
First, “Done is better than perfect”. So often we are paralyzed to move on writing or publish our book, since we want it to be perfect. Problem is that can be an excuse. Do your best and the publish. You can always go back and fix mistakes after the fact.
Second, “force yourself to write.” If you don’t know what to write then just start writing whatever. Writing is a muscle and the only way to get stronger is to do it!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Again, “Done is better than perfect” is what changed the game for me. It released my inner perfectionist and let me publish!
What are you reading now?
A hodge podge of books, including some on self-publishing, mini-habits, exercise, book editing, and more!
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m working on book two about being 1% better and then I’ll have another book on breaking procrastination. So 3 books out by the end of the year. Then I’m planning four more books in 2016.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Well, besides “The Bible” it has to be “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie.
Timeless information and worth reading and re-reading by everyone!
