Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a 36 year old, mom of a 4 month old daughter, Kira. I have a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Business Administration. I have been working in a community bank for about ten years and am currently a vice president of commercial lending. Trigger is my first book and I am currently working on the sequel and have a plot outline for a third book. I even have ideas for a spin off series.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Trigger is my first book. It was inspired by my love of adventure, traveling and excitement. My husband got me motivated to begin writing it and once I started it was like I finally found my calling!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to listen to instrumental music while I write, mainly “world music” like Jesse Cook and Cafe del Mar. The lack of lyrics allows me to focus and often the music itself is inspirational because it reminds me of the amazing places I have been and puts me in a great mood.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Too many over the years and from all different genres to mention them all, but some of them include: Robert Ludlum and the Bourne Identity series, Daniel Silva’s books featuring Gabriel Allon, The Beach by Alex Garland, the Chronicles of Narnia series, the Harry Potter books, JD Robb and her In Death series, I could go on forever, but those are some of the main ones.
What are you working on now?
The sequel to Trigger and I am constantly jotting down notes for other ideas, especially for a book on the interesting journey that pregnancy and childbirth is. I found the whole process of having my daughter educational, amazing and at times, more than a little gross! I have some fun anecdotes and stories that I think other moms will relate to and that potential moms will find very illuminating.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
It is a combination of many things from Facebook and Twitter, to my website, to Amazon itself (where you can buy my book :)).
Do you have any advice for new authors?
The advice that helped me the most when writing my book was: Write what you know and write what you want to read. It is important to know your subject inside out, but also to have a passion for it and that is what I have in Trigger.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Live the life you love, simple and a little sappy, but so totally true!
What are you reading now?
JD Robb’s latest, Obsession in Death and Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Publishing the sequel to Trigger, starting the third book in the series and starting other projects. Right now I am a full time mom, a part time banker and a part time writer. I would love to be a full time writer because other than being a great mom it is what I am most passionate about.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Hands down The Count of Monte Cristo. I love how it is a story of survival, revenge and redemption all wrapped up into one glorious read. I love that the hero gets to put some many wrongs right, but also that in the end he finds what he really needs to be happy. I also love how he is able to orchestrate his master plan on such a grand scale. It entertains me every time I read it.
