Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Jenna Whittaker and I am an Australian author who has been writing fantasy, science fiction, and horror novels for as long as I can remember! I have self-published 2 novels–1 science fiction and 1 fantasy, have finished the first draft of a 3rd, a dystopian fantasy (to edit and then publish later this year) and finally am currently writing the first draft of a 4th, another fantasy, about half-way done.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest novel has only had the 1st draft completed so far, and will start being edited in September 2016. It is called ‘The Last Immortal’ and was inspired by a dream I had of a human girl giving birth to a cat!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to think I’m fairly normal…put on some good background music (usually trance/house mixes or game/movie soundtracks), and write away!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Definitely the plethora of fantasy and sci fi authors I read all throughout my childhood and to this day! Raymond E. Feist, Ian Irvine, Robin Hobb, and many many more.
What are you working on now?
My 4th novel, Dance of Desolation. It’s also a first draft, not yet completed even to the editing stage (but it will be by mid-2017). It’s a fantasy novel set 100 years in the future to my first book, Dreamscape.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just write…write and write, and don’t worry about ‘rules’ and doing it ‘correctly’. Practice makes perfect!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
That’s hard…I’ve heard a great deal of good advice over the years. Probably just the same as my advice for new authors, to write!
What are you reading now?
My own book! I don’t have much time lately to read for fun, sadly. Once I get these 2 WIP novels published, though, that will change. Aiming to read Todd Lockwood’s novel, the Summer Dragon, next.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Editing my 2 WIP novels, and then probably doing some short stories for e-zines/competitions/anthologies!
What is your favorite book of all time?
Anything by Robin Hobb.
