I'm forty-four, was brought up in Staffordshire and have written four books set in Glasgow, the last three a crime trilogy called The Dirty Rouge series.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called Whisky Leaks. The title is a tongue in cheek derivation of the WikiLeaks news organisation that specialises in publishing secrets often obtained via computer hackers. the connection is that my hard-drinking hero – a Scottish detective called DCI Patrick Curzon – uses a hacker to solve the case of a murdered job recruitment queen.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don't have any unusual writing habits that I can think of.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
My greatest influence has to be Fyodor Dostoevsky.
What are you working on now?
I'm in between books at the moment, but it's likely that i'll start work on book 4 in The Dirty Rouge detective series some time in the autumn.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I just post my books on any and every available book website, Facebook and Twitter page.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just that the more you write the better you become and you can only learn from your mistakes.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Socrates: I am the wisest man alive, for I know one thing, and that is that I know nothing.
What are you reading now?
Being and Nothingness by Jean-Paul Sartre.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I want to carry on with the story of DCI Pat Curzon. There are so many things I've got planned for him, I'm salivating at the thought.
What is your favorite book of all time?
The Idiot by Dostoyevsky. I just love the feel of it and its sense of place, in St Petersburg. Sense of place is very important for me in my own books, which is why I have adopted Glasgow as a setting.
