Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve been writing since I was 15 and got my first piece traditionally published at 33. About five years ago I discovered digital publishing and self-published three books which have been doing fairly well. Those books have nothing to do with adult fiction; they’re all how-to guides.
Only in the last few years have I been writing erotica. Chris ‘Chrissy’ Reynolds is the pen name I use to keep my erotica separate from my professional non-fiction writing. As Chris, I currently have two books on Kindle and I’m in the process of writing a few more.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is entitled: An Erotic Education. It is the first in what I’m calling the Jessica Rush Series. It was inspired by a number of things. First, the good fortune of having had few strong and beautiful female partners and mistresses over time who shared this sense of erotic adventure. Second, through an internet marketing course I made the acquaintance of a fellow student who writes a more mainstream erotica. I love the idea of making a healthy income by writing about your passions and she’s the one who really got me excited about sharing mine.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write everything longhand first. I burn up pad after legal pad. There’s something tactile about writing with pen and paper that a keyboard can’t replicate. I also like my own handwriting. I had to master what they call ‘architect hand’ in the design field and I am constantly fine tuning it.
I create a lot of content based off real life interactions with people and witnessing interaction between others. Who people consider themselves to be, what they do for a living, their experiences, what makes them happy, angry, sad.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
The first author I fell in love with was Kurt Vonnegut. He was a breath of fresh air compared to all the other things they made us read in school. He gave me a sense of possibility. As far away as he got from the main plot, he always made it back to the story arc with more character development that invariably played a later part.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on the second book in the Jessica Rush Series called Femdom Community. It’s about a fictional place where an unusual way of life is a celebrated.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am only beginning to learn what my resources are for promotion within the erotic fiction genre. I am in the process of finding places just like this where I can share info about my work.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Let the real life interactions of others around you play a part in your character development. It’s the small, seemingly mundane reactions people have to various situations which speak to their character, their quirks, likes and dislikes that make them unique and endear the reader to them.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Hope is for the hopeless and someday is the day that never comes.” If you have a definite interest in something, follow it, learn more, do it. We only have so much time here, don’t let another moment slip away. There are a lot of things I want to do in life and I know I won’t have the time to do them all, but I’m going to have fun trying.
What are you reading now?
My marketing / motivatinal guru is Seth Godin. I highly recommend his books: ‘Tribes’ and ‘The Icarus Deception’. They have a lot to do with potential, ideas and connecting people.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Not sure. I have so many projects in the works. I imagine that I’ll finish my current work and start making notes for the next book in the Jessica Rush series.
