Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I started writing a memoir in 1997 about my adventures as a kid on travel with some of the Big Bands of the Jazz-Swing era after WWII. After exhausting the literary agent route to publishing, I found Amazon/Kindle where I published Independently with the help of Amazon. I am the author of seven works, six of them are fiction and one is a revised memoir (2 novels, 3 novellas, 1 screenplay, and 1 memoir).
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Campaign 2016 Election Comedy is the name of my latest book. The political process and the backgrounds of some politicians inspired me to write a comedy/humor/parody of a generic candidate that is without scruples while running for president. Character will do almost anything for a vote and a small group of supporting characters travel with the candidate prior to the election.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I will write early in the morning hours while others are still asleep.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I enjoy books written by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
What are you working on now?
I am working on advertising my books using the internet and giving them away when possible.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Word-of-mouth is my best method of promoting books. Also, I have a large number of contacts at the U.S. Naval Academy alumni group sites, contacts on Linkedin, and on various blogs that are hosted by other people. A helpful website for promotion is Amazon Marketing Services and http://askdavid.com/reviews/book/publishing_industry/4066
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just keep writing and read work of others when possible to observe the authors’ techniques in presenting their stories.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Forget writing memoir unless you are famous and have a platform,” was advice from a kind literary agent.
What are you reading now?
I read the newspapers and read various sites where others express their opinions on a variety of subjects.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I have not decided on my next project but a rewrite of my memoir is a possibility to include many of the experiences I neglected to include in the published work written to encourage disadvantaged youth to pursue education. Title: Miss Williams, (Amazon); she was 5th Grade teacher that failed me.
What is your favorite book of all time?
The Last Tycoon by F. Scott Fitzgerald
