Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a YA Fantasy author, collector of oddities, and big-time geek. Writing books never entered my mind until I completed my bachelors in anthropology and religious studies and a masters in environmental leadership. After having tried a variety of unique jobs – from park ranger, grant writer, natural history curator, to archaeologist – did I start experimenting with writing fiction. A few moves around the country, and some long international trips later, I published my debut novel, Strange Luck, in 2015. My second book, The Nightmare Birds, was just released on August 2, 2016.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Nightmare Birds is the newest YA Fantasy/Horror story in the Strange Luck series. It’s about Daisy Darling’s quest to uncover the truth about the mysterious Theater of Secrets – long thought a dark legend by many, but known as a frightening reality to those who truly know its powers. Only the invited may find it and once they do, they cannot go back. What Daisy doesn’t know is that this mystery will forever change her life and her future.
I’ve always loved the concept of the supernatural creeping into the real world. H.P. Lovecraft and my love of horror and dark magic were the inspiration for this story.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
It literally has to be pin-drop quiet when I’m laying down the scaffolding of my story. After that, I may listen to a bit of classical music while working. My desk always has to face a window, too. There’s just something about unconsciously gazing at birds and squirrels that helps with my writing process.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
H.P Lovecraft is my favorite author of all time. Not only was he an amazing writer, he seemed like a really neat, and peculiar, person.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently developing my ideas for the next book in the Strange Luck series. Stay tuned for details.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t ever give up writing even if you’re rejected or receive negative feedback. The path is going to be difficult, it’s going to be trying, but in the end, it will be worth it when you finally hold your book in your hands. 😀
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Trust your intuition. If something doesn’t feel right, don’t do it.
What are you reading now?
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I'll never look at a towel the same way again.
What’s next for you as a writer?
More books! I have four books planned in the Strange Luck Series, including a prequel.
What is your favorite book of all time?
It’s a toss-up between H.P. Lovecraft’s The Lurker at the Threshold, J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and Michael Ende’s The Neverending Story.
