Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Alan Taffel is a TV writer/producer/director, the winner of an Emmy and multiple CableAce awards, a guitarist who will never play like Eric Clapton, and an avid golfer who has never hit a hole-in-one or shot a game under par. Alan lives with his wife Caryn in South Florida.
Author of “Heaven, Inc. – A Helluva Novel” out now in paperback and Kindle versions. It’s sequel is out soon!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to let the characters take me where they will. Often a surprise to me.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Mark Twain, Douglas Adams, Kurt Vonnegut, William Gibson
What are you working on now?
A sequel to “Heaven, Inc. and a comedy mystery that takes place in South Florida.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Twitter, Facebook, word of mouth.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Rule 1 – Write, dammit. Every day.
Rule 2 – Don’t give up
Rule 3 – Keep an open mind but remember others are not always right.
Rule 4 – Learn to accept criticism and rejection.
Rule 5 – Don’t get upset if few (if any) people know you’re a writer.
Rule 6 – Answer “How many books did you sell?” with “What did you earn last year?”
Rule 7 – Write for you.
Rule 8 – Break all the rules…including these.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write every day.
