Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Ava and I write Paranormal Romance With a Bite, with suspense and lots of action thrown in. I live in Bonnie Scotland with my husband and family, which includes a loopy GSD called Luna, and a black Lab pup called Jinx, both of them named after characters in my stories. I have well over thirty books out at the moment, spread over several series, and all of them have lots of suspense and thrills as well as romance. I love chocolate and a nice chilled glass of Zinfandel and I adore looking after our three grandchildren. With the dogs and the wee ones, the house can be likened to a madhouse at times!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest release is Escape: A Vampire Blood Courtesans Romance and I am super thrilled to join Michelle Fox's World of Blood Courtesans. I absolutely loved writing it, so much so, that although I'd only planned this one to join the Courtesans series, I've already started a wee sequel to join it! It's set in a world where Vampires are out and employ Blood Courtesans to meet their needs, both blood and body. There is a plethora of best selling authors who are in the series and it's a fantastical ride of exciting stories so if you haven't checked out the series I'd highly recommend it.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Hmm, not unusual I don't think, but I do like utter silence when I'm 'in the zone' and once I'm there the house could probably fall down around me without me knowing!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I wouldn't say influenced but I do have some 'go to' authors who I adore! I love Monica La Porta and Eden Elsworth for PNR, both are fabulous writers and storytellers. I also love epic fantasy and I love Nav Logan's Stormbringer Saga books! They keep me hooked from beginning to end!
What are you working on now?
I'm working on several projects at the moment, one is the next Blood Courtesans story and I'm also working on additions to my Guild of Dragon Warriors series, as well as one to add to the Next Generation of The Witch, The Wolf and The Vampire series.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I find that working with other authors, like newsletter swaps etc, is always a good way to help and, of course, mybookplace!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
I have to say that this is not an easy job, it's hard work, lots and lots of hard work, but if you are determined then you can do it. You also have to have a good team around you, from beta readers, arc readers, cover designers and very importantly, a good editor. Don't try and skip any of those steps because it will show up in your writing and each one of them is important to get your best product possible into the hands of readers.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
It's one I still live with, and it was my gran who brought me up and told me all the time:- "If ye canny say somat nice then shut yer geggy!" In other words if you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all.
What are you reading now?
I'm reading Monica La Porta's latest addition to ther Fifth Moon's Wolf series – and I love it! Love this series so much, it's more steampunk than straight PNR but it's another fabulous read by Monica.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Gosh, I just put my head down and get on with work and see where this journey takes me. I would, of course, love a film deal from Spielberg lol, I can dream!
What is your favorite book of all time?
It has to be what started me reading in the first place. The Famous Five series by Enid Blyton got me hooked to words and stories and once I started I just couldn't stop.
